Outdoor Classroom Ready for Use

The outdoor classroom, the fifth-grade class’s legacy to the school, is finished and ready for the teachers to take their students outside, study in the sun, perform a skit on the stage, or have lunch at the picnic tables. The outdoor classroom is located on the fifth-grade playground to the right of the soccer goal, up the hill in the wooded area. The fifth-grade teachers, students, and volunteers had a ribbon-cutting ceremony the morning of April 28 to officially open the outdoor
classroom.

This project would not have been possible without the support and input from the fifth-grade teachers , Ms. Isaac, Ms. Osborne, Mrs.Reardon, Mrs. Stippich, and Mrs. Weiss; and from the administration and office staff. We would also like to give a special thanks to the following families who assisted this project with their generous donations:  Buckman, Chisholm, Crabtree, DeLucca, Dillehay, Fitzharris, Glunn, Helms, Hicks, Kavanaugh, Kopf, Lehman, Marcus, Marino, Markanda, Peng, Quintet, Scherr, Smallwood, Soll, Tucker, Tung/Murley, Uras, Webb, and one anonymous donation.

Alex Brunson & Mike Makurat, the architect and contractor on this project, have put in many long hours to complete the outdoor classroom.  They received donations of gift cards and equipment from the Home Depot on Shallowford Road to help them save time and money on materials and labor. The fifth-grade committee appreciates all of their efforts to ensure this project is a success.

Fifth-Grade Graduation Coming May 21

Parents of fifth graders: Do you remember when these children boarded the bus for the first day of kindergarten? Please come and celebrate with your fifth-grade student as they graduate from Mountain View Elementary on May 21, 8:15 a.m., in the cafeteria. This special event will include fifth-grade awards, certificates, and a slide show commemorating our rising sixth-graders. Fifth-grade students should wear their best clothing.

All fifth-grade parents are invited the graduation ceremony. Immediately after, parents and students are invited to attend a reception in the cafeteria. After the reception, the students will change into casual clothes and will continue with a DJ and fun outside. Parents will need to bring home their child’s dress clothes as no backpacks are allowed on the bus that day. The day will conclude with a special class video and the “final” walk through the hallways of Mountain View.

Parent volunteers are needed to help serve lunch and to monitor playground activities. Parents can stay all day or leave after the graduation and return later for the final walk through the halls. Contact Rebecca Helms if you can help at tphelms@comcast.net.

Spring Fling a Success

The first Mountain View spring fling was held on Friday, April 23, to celebrate the end of CRCT testing and to give the parents and students a chance to spend time outdoors together.  The fifth-grade committee would like to thank the following vendors who have helped make our food sales a success at this event: Chick fil-A, Domino’s, Jersey Mike’s, Kroger’s and TCBY. And
as always, a special thanks goes out to our parent volunteers for all of their time and effort.

Students Jumped at Pump-it-Up

The fifth-grade committee held their last event of the school year at Pump-It-Up event Friday, April 30. This was the final fifth-grade only event held off the school grounds.

Don’t Have a Cow: Have a Chicken!

Enjoy a break from cooking and go to the Sprayberry Chick fil-A night on Thursday, May 20. Don’t forget to identify yourself as a Mountain View family when placing your drive-through order. When dining in, please mention your Mountain View affiliation, and then drop your receipt in the red or black box at the counter. This is a fun event for children of all ages.

Chick fil-A offers face painting, balloons, clowns, and a chance to meet the star of their advertising − the Chick-Fil-A Cow. The fifth-grade committee would like to thank parent Jeannie Northrup for coordinating the promotion of this event during the school year.
